Understanding OVDs is essential for good cataract surgery
نویسنده
چکیده
CATARACT surgeons need to have a thorough understanding of the classification of ophthalmic viscosurgical devices (OVDs) if they are to use them to their best advantage, said Steve Arshinoff MD FRCSC in his Rayner Medal lecture at the annual meeting of the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS) held in conjunction with the XXIV Congress of the ESCRS. Dr Arshinoff, University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, noted that there are now nearly 80 OVDs on the market and that their properties vary widely. In order to understand how best to use a given OVD it is necessary to understand what class it fits into and how OVDs of that class behave differently from those of other classes, he emphasised.

متن کاملComparison of Floaters after Cataract Surgery with Different Viscoelastics
Purpose: To investigate whether there is a difference between symptoms of floaters according to the type of ophthalmic viscosurgical devices(OVDs) used during phacoemulsification. Methods: A total of 112 eyes had undergone standard phacosurgery with the dispersive OVDs(Group1). Group2 comprised 117 eyes that underwent phacosurgery with the dispersive OVDs, but between continuous curvilinear cap...

Purpose: To demonstrate an approach to the problems of cataract surgery in extensive iridoschisis Methods: Four eyes of 2 patients with extensive iridoschisis had cataract surgery by the same surgeon using the techniques that resembled techniques for phacoemulsification in intraoperative floppy iris syndrome (IFIS). We used low flow parameters on phacoemulsification, used super-cohesive ophthal...
متن کاملFree radical development in phacoemulsification cataract surgery.
Phacoemulsification and aspiration (PEA) has become the most popular cataract surgery, due to the establishment of safe surgical techniques and development of associated instruments. However, corneal endothelial damage still represents a serious complication, as excessive damage can lead to irreversible bullous keratopathy. In addition to causes such as mechanical or heat injuries, free radical...
